{"id":151,"date":"2012-05-31T05:08:07","date_gmt":"2012-05-31T05:08:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hollenbeck.ws\/travel\/?p=151"},"modified":"2012-05-31T05:08:07","modified_gmt":"2012-05-31T05:08:07","slug":"tuesday-529-wiamea-canyon-and-na-pali-sunset-cruise","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hollenbeck.ws\/travel\/?p=151","title":{"rendered":"Tuesday 5\/29 Wiamea Canyon and Na Pali Sunset Cruise"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Woke up early again to we could drive around to the other side of the island and go up Wiamea Canyon.\u00a0 We all missed the first turn and the second turn to go up the canyon.\u00a0 After a 10 mile detour we got headed up the canyon.\u00a0 We pulled off at all the stops along the way and Dwayne took some pictures.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll post some later because I was the assistant and didn&#8217;t take any of my own pictures this day.\u00a0 The last stop on the canyon drive is the very top.\u00a0 It looks out over the top of the Na Pali coastline.\u00a0 It is breath taking to look at.\u00a0 After taking the obligatory pictures we headed down the hill.\u00a0 On the way down the &#8220;dumb ass you need gas&#8221; light came on.\u00a0 As we had no clue how much gas we had left it was a butt clenching ride back down the hill.\u00a0 Pulled into the first gas station we came to and the car took 17 gallons of gas.\u00a0 Found out later that the car actually has a 20 gallon tank so we could have made it no problem.\u00a0 =)<\/p>\n<p>We had an hour to kill before we had to check in for our dinner cruise around The Na Pali coast line.\u00a0 Got ourselves checked in and walked down to the dock.\u00a0 The cruise was on a 55 foot catamaran.\u00a0 You are not allowed to wear your shoes on the boat so we all had to take them off and put them on a rolling cart together with everyone else&#8217;s shoes.\u00a0 We leave the dock and move out through the bar.\u00a0 Talk about rough water.\u00a0 The wind was blowing and the water was coming up over the front and sides of the boat.\u00a0 We started getting soaked right from the start of the cruise.\u00a0 The ride did not get any smoother the rest of the cruise.\u00a0 We had large white caps with the wind blowing pretty good.\u00a0 The waves ran the gambit from short and close together to long waves that made the boat dip down in front. \u00a0 He took us out to the end of the coast line and turned us around.\u00a0 Once he turned us around he put up the front sail and cut the engines.\u00a0 I did really good through the entire rough ride out there but when he cut the engines and we were sailing, that&#8217;s when I got sick.\u00a0 I wasn&#8217;t the only one and the weather just continued to deteriorate from there.\u00a0 He started the engines again and started taking us back in.\u00a0 By the time he got us back we had started getting rained on.\u00a0 I was never so happy to see land in my life.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t have any pictures from this part of the night as I was too busy holding on and hoping I would live to see shore again.\u00a0 Rex did get some pictures and just so you don&#8217;t think I&#8217;m exaggerating I&#8217;ll get some from him and post them.\u00a0 Until then you will just have to believe me when I tell you that I think the Columbia on a bad day was better than what we had.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Woke up early again to we could drive around to the other side of the island and go up Wiamea Canyon.\u00a0 We all missed the first turn and the second turn to go up the canyon.\u00a0 After a 10 mile detour we got headed up the canyon.\u00a0 We pulled off at all the stops along [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[7],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-151","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-kauai-hawaii"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/hollenbeck.ws\/travel\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/151","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/hollenbeck.ws\/travel\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/hollenbeck.ws\/travel\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/hollenbeck.ws\/travel\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/hollenbeck.ws\/travel\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=151"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/hollenbeck.ws\/travel\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/151\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":152,"href":"https:\/\/hollenbeck.ws\/travel\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/151\/revisions\/152"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/hollenbeck.ws\/travel\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=151"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/hollenbeck.ws\/travel\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=151"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/hollenbeck.ws\/travel\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=151"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
