First Day in the Big Apple

We started the day out getting coffee and breakfast at Starbucks.  We sat there looking out the window doing a little people watching.  That was quite the fashion show we got.  Needless to say anything goes around here for clothes.

After we finished our coffee we set out looking for a grocery store.  That turned out to not be as easy as one would think.  We were finally successful and got what we needed and headed back to the apt.

We decided to take a walk and started walking through Central Park.  Our apt is on E 78th right next to Central Park so that is where we started.

We walked to Belvedere Castle (which is in the center of the park).  Quite the views from there.

We continued walking south through the park, past The Lake, around to Bethesda Terrace and down The Mall to the corner of 5th and Park Lane.  We did some more people watching and saw the horse drawn carriages that run through Central Park.

From the park we walked down 5th Ave towards Rockefeller Center.  Since we were there we decided to do the Top of the Rock.  This is an observation platform on the 67th floor with an incredible view of New York.  The ride up in the elevator took 43 seconds.  The roof of the elevator is clear plexiglass so you can look up and see the elevator shaft and when you get to the top.

Looking towards central park. The building on the right side in the middle of the park is the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Our apt is across the street. We walked the lower half of the park

Looking south. Empire State building in the center and off to the right out in the water is the Statue of Liberty

When they say Top of the Rock they aren’t kidding.  We were at the very top of the building.

We got up to the top about 3:30 pm and Dwayne wanted to stay until the sun set and we could get a couple of night pictures.  I think we were up there for about an hour maybe an hour and a half.

After this we had some pizza for dinner, got some pictures of the Christmas tree.  Watched a show on the side of the Saks 5th Ave building and took a stroll through the FAO Schwarz store.

I think Dwayne figured out after we were back at the apartment that we walked about 9 miles today.  And I’m sure there will be more tomorrow.  All I know is that I will sleep really well tonight.  LOL.

Saturday 06/02 – We made it home

Home at last.  We were home by 11:30 pm tonight.  Had a lot of fun on our vacation but I’m always glad to be back.

I’m not the biggest fan of flying so I’m always happy to get off the plane.    I’ll get some more pictures posted once we get them off the small laptop.

Friday June 1 – lazy day

It’s our last full day before we head home.  We slept in this morning and have been in general lazy.  Its the first and only day without an activity planned.

We have done nothing today except enjoy the day and sit on the balcony.  We will go out to dinner and later watch the sunset and take some pictures.  We catch our plane home tomorrow.

Thursday 5/31 Beach time and Luau

Went out yesterday to find us a spot on the beach.  Got our spot and got our chairs set up.  It was sunny and warm then a cloud would come over and the breeze would pickup.  It was heaven.  Rex and Joanne went out into the water and Dwayne and I sat up on the beach.  I didn’t put anything on my legs as my legs never burn.  However, my shins did get some sun which i find completely amazing.   We sat on the beach until it started to rain.  The rain it’s self  is not warm.  We left the beach, got us some lunch and came back to the house for a little while.

We left for the luau around 4:30.  It’s a small island but we happen to be the farthest north you can get and all of our activities are back towards the airport or on the other side of the island.  And because we on one side of the Na Pali coast line, we always have to drive the long way to get where we want to be.

The food was good and we got to listen to them sing while we ate our dinner and drank our Mai Tai’s.  Life is good.  =)  After dinner we walked over to the pavillion to watch the show.  Almost all the way through the show someone started yelling for a doctor and for someone to call 911.  I never did hear exactly what happened but a women in the audience had some problem.  They stopped the show until the emergency people showed up and took care of the women.   Then they resumed the show.

Wednesday 5/30 Kipu Ranch ATV tour

Vacations are really tough work.  LOL…

Got early again today so we could be out to the AVT’s on time.   Got out there, got helmets, goggles and bandanas to cover our face.  They directed us to our Atv.  Got a quick lesson on how to drive it.  Dwayne drove and i was the sidekick.    We all took off following the leader.  I can’t believe the amount of dust that comes off of those things.  We got to a practice hill where they determine if we get to continue on our own or if we have to become a passenger.  Dwayne of course passed and we were off again.  We had stops along the way for us to take pictures.  The first stop we had was in a pretty area where they filmed scenes from Jurasick Park, Indiana Jones and The Mighty Joe Young.

Our next stop was an area where everyone got to go for a quick swim if the wanted to.   I took pictures of everyone else getting wet.  The area is where they filmed the scene in the first Indiana Jones where Harrison Ford is running out of the cave and down to a sea plane.   The rope swing everyone was swinging into the water from is where Harrison Ford went swinging out into the water to get away from the poison darts that were being thrown at him.

The hill Harrison Ford ran down in the first Indiana Jones movie to get away from the natives.

After this stop we stopped for lunch.  Has some sandwiches and were on our way again.  We went through all kinds of terrain today and it was really rather fun.  Our faces were red and dirty when we got finished.  Tomorrow we are going to sit on the beach and watch Rex drown while snorkeling.  Then we are going to a Luau.  Here are some random pictures from the ATV day today.
