Cawdor Castle

On our way to our next stop we stopped off at Cawdor Castle because it was on the way and we missed it yesterday when we went to Culloden.

They let us take pictures inside just no flash. image image image

The gardens are really beautiful.  There is a walled garden with a maze.  They have the maze closed because it’s done out of holly plants and they say the plants have shallow roots and can’t stand up to large groups of people always going through it.   You can go through it though but you have to make arragments ahead of time.

The maze had a really nice covered walk way around it.

There was also a flower garden.  We walked into the garden and the first thing I thought was Dwayne would like this one.

There was also this piece of art just as you come in.  Turns out when we got closer it was a bird feeder.

After the castle we made our way to our next stop un Dingwall.  Our hotel is Tulloch Castle.  And yes, it’s an old small square castle.   I think there are 20 rooms total.

Culloden Battlefield

So today was Culloden battlefield.  Thankfully the wind wasn’t blowing this time and it was actually pleasant to walk around the battlefield.

Grantown on Spey

Turns out the car is supposed to cut out when you stop and put your foot on the break.  Now that I know that it’s not so intimidating to drive the car.

We made our way to our next stop — Grantown on Spey.  Our B&B was Strathallan Bend and Breakfast.  We got in pretty early so we walked around a bit and found a cute Cafe and grabbed us some lunch.

i had a meat and tatie pie.  Oh yummy, it was good.

Finally went over to our B&B to check in.  Love it!!!!!!!!

The inside is beautiful and comfortable.  There is the dining room for breakfast as a lounge for guests to go and relax if they don’t want to be in their room.

Menzie’s Castle

This castle is intact and the family has kept it in it’s original condition instead of trying to upgrade it.

I love when they keep them as original as possible.

At this point still having trouble with the car.  The auto collision keeps kicking on and cutting power to the car.  Very scary and it’s starting to get on my nerves because it happens at the worst time.

We also stopped in at a

Dunnottar Castle

We headed out to Dunnottar Castle and made it unscathed.   Took a couple of wrong turns but backtracked and got there no problem.  Only problem was mom had to use the restroom.  So we find out that we have to buy tickets for the castle out at the castle and that the porta potties that were supposed to be delivered the day before hadn’t arrived.  The closest bathroom was, you guessed it, out at the castle.

image

I don’t know why but I’ve always wanted to visit this castle.  Well this time I got to.   However, I wasn’t aware of how many steps there were to get you out there.  Mom took one look at the stairs and almost turned around.  Lolol

So, it’s a long flight of stairs down, then a short path then more stairs to take you up to the castle.

When you get to the top of this set of stairs you walk into the Porticullis then up another set of stairs and through a tunnel that comes out in the middle of the courtyard.

Finally made it to the top and found the bathroom.  I expected porta potties, I mean this is a castle ruin on top of a rock that is mostly seperated from the mainland.  So finding a flushing toilet was a surprise.  Mom was happy though.   Lolol

The wind was blowing really hard out there to.  I looked up and saw a bird trying to fly.  The wind was blowing so hard that the bird looked like he was just hovering.
